    Representation Matters: Osheaga 2019

A few days after I photographed Osheaga Festival for ADDICTED Magazine, I ran into my editor, Nadia Elkharadly, who commented on the ethnic and gender diversity of the artists I covered. Of the 41 artists I saw at Osheaga, 39% had female representation, and 41% had POC representation. While this is still short of the 50:50 gender balance many festivals are working toward for the 2022 Keychange pledge, these personal statistics are heartwarming. At the time of our conversation

Andrew WK @ The Opera House

There aren't many instances where I wish I weighed a couple hundred pounds more. This was the exception. Andrew WK's fans are rowdy to say the least, and thus not so conducive to prime photography conditions. However, Andrew WK himself was a treat to photograph, with his fair share of finger pointing, hair flipping, and rawk and foll showmanship displayed during the first three songs. Yelle @ Adelaide Hall

French electro-pop outfit, Yelle, graced the stage of Adelaide Hall on the Thanksgiving weekend. This was my first time shooting Adelaide Hall - a venue notorious for dark lighting conditions. Due to the small size of the stage, I used this as an opportunity to use my 18-35mm f/2.8 lens. Check out the full set of pics over at Live In Limbo. YELLE #concertphotography

    Kid Cudi @ REBEL

This show, was SO HARD. To be honest, it almost felt like - dare I say it - a waste of my time, as I walked away with a bunch of blurry, underexposed pictures at best. There's only been two instances where I've been without a photopit at REBEL. This was the third. Instead, this was a soundboard shoot. While I was armed with a long lens (70-200mm and a 2x extender), The roughly 10 photographers who were approved for the show were all herded into a tiny section of the area near

Tash Sultana @ Danforth Music Hall

Aussie multi-instrumentalist, Tash Sultana, graced Toronto for the very first time. Us photogs are typical spoiled when it comes to shows at the Danforth Music Hall - sightlines are great, the stage isn't too high, and there's a photo pit. However, for this show, we weren't gifted with the last piece of that trinity; there was no pit, and thus I was left to fend for myself in the crowd. Usually audience members are understanding - they'll see my huge ass (very heavy) camera,
