Portugal. The Man, the Lords of Portland, and best thing to come out of Alaska, have had an exceptional year. While they've released quite a few albums, and have been one of my favourite bands for a while, their current single "Feel It Still", has finally breached the threshold of pop radio.
While I've seen these guys perform a few times (NXNE 2012, Pinkpop Festival 2014), this was my first time photographing them.
Rather than addressing the crowd with forced "banter", they performed the entire show with a projection on stage with text that spoke on their behalf. While this disembodied text had a sense of humour, "Greetings <insert city here>", the multicoloured projection and dark ambiance made the shoot difficult.
Atlantic Canadian indie rockers Partners have been on my want to watch list for a while, so it was a treat having them open the evening. They have a likeable, quirky sound that I would love to see again during one of their headlining sets.
